Using Document Assistant in the document viewer
The integrated AI Document Assistant helps you quickly understand documents by answering questions directly within the document viewer. It’s designed to support your workflow, but it does not replace professional review. The Document Assistant only provides information found within the document itself.
What it can do
- Provide helpful clickable prompts
- Let you ask your own custom questions
- Summarize or explain sections within the document
Asking questions
Clickable prompts: Start with suggested questions like “Summarize this document” or “Highlight important clauses.”
Custom questions: Type anything you'd like to know.
The assistant will mark unrelated or out-of-scope questions as irrelevant and will not answer them.
Usage limits
- The Document Assistant will reference only the first 50 pages of the document to generate its answer.
- Each user can ask up to 5 questions per document per session.
- You can start a new session by reopening the document.
How your information is protected
We use responsible Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service for processing your data securely.

- Limited Access. Your data stays within Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure. Neither OpenAI nor any third party has access to it.
