Redacted documents can be uploaded to your Data Room like any other file. However, depending on the way a document has been redacted, it will be displayed differently in the Document viewer and will behave differently in the search bar. Understanding these differences helps you ensure that sensitive information remains protected and that users can find the documents they need.
See the images below to see the difference between the two types of redacted documents.
| Black surface | Redaction tool |
|---|---|
| The file on the left contains only a black surface. The underlying metadata is still present and will show results in the search bar. | The file on the right was redacted with a redaction tool. For example, the redaction tool available in Workspaces or Adobe Acrobat Pro. The underlying metadata is deleted and therefore it will not show results in the search bar. |
Document Management Tip: Check how the redacted files are displayed in the document viewer before inviting users. There are edge cases where the source file has flaws in the lay-out. This may cause a difference in the lay-out between the supporting program on your PC and the lay-out in the document viewer.
